Rosal Ortega Flamenco: A Legacy of Passion, Culture, and Community Wellness!
Rosal Ortega is a renowned Spanish Classical and Flamenco dancer, singer and choreographer born and based in Santa Barbara, California. A ninth-generation member of the historic Cota and Ortega families dating back to the Santa Barbara Presidio, she comes from a distinguished lineage of dancers. She is the granddaughter of Juan Cota and the daughter of Irene Rosita Cota Tuttle, both influential figures in the Santa Barbara dance community.
Destined to dance, Rosal began her training at the age of six and travelled to Seville, Spain at twelve to study Spanish Classical and Flamenco dance. By thirteen, she was performing professionally in Seville. A former Old Spanish Days Spirit of Fiesta, her extensive training and career include collaborations and featured performances with esteemed artists and companies such as Juan Talavera’s Flamenco Bravo, Roberto Amaral, Clarita Corona & Arte Flamenco, Cruz Luna, Luisa Triana, and Paco & Yolanda Arroyo’s Flamenco, Flamenco.
Rosal has performed extensively throughout California and across the United States, as well as internationally. She directed her own flamenco company on a six-month tour of Japan and performed in Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas with the Spanish Dance Company of Charo. For over 15 years, she has been a regular performer in the Los Angeles area in productions directed by Yvette Garcia “La Sole.”
Currently, Rosal directs her own company, Rosal Ortega & Flamenco Olé, and teaches adult beginner flamenco dance programs in Santa Barbara. A passionate artist rooted in culture and community, Rosal Ortega continues to honor her heritage while bringing the power and beauty of Flamenco to audiences and students alike.
